PALEONTOLOGICAL MUSEUM and STUDY COLLECTIONS MOLLUSK COLLECTION PHYLUM: Mollusca - Mollusks are invertebrates having soft unsegmented bodies ususally enclosed in a shell which are made from calcium that is extracted from the waters in which they live or from the food they eat. The denser form, calcite, is found on the outer shell while many mollusk shell interiors are lined with aragonite (mother-of-pearl, nacre).
